1037193 Ontario Ltd., operating as SouthPoint Wind (SPW), is one of a group of companies
owned and operated by the Liovas family of Leamington. The Liovas group of companies is well
known and respected as land developers and builders in the residential and commercial
construction business in the Greater Windsor and Essex County area.
The SouthPoint Wind Offshore Wind Project is for a 30MW project comprising three small wind
farms (five 2MW turbines at each of the three locations) off the northern Lake Erie shoreline. The
electrical connection from the wind farms will be via a submarine cable to separate electrical
distribution systems owned by the Local Distribution Companies (LDC) supplying power to Essex
County communities of Leamington, Union and Kingsville. The connection voltage level to the LDC
distribution systems is 27600 volts. Easements are being secured to bring the submarine cables to
shore and to erect electrical switching/metering units for terminating the submarine cables, and for
subsequent connection to the appropriate LDC feeder onshore. The wind-power turbines will be
mounted on a "mono-pile" foundation anchored into bedrock.
